Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum will hold a public rally Wednesday night at the Curb Event Center, according to statements from his campaign and Belmont.
The rally is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Doors will open at 7 p.m, according to the university.
Santorum, a former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, is currently is the frontrunner in Tennessee’s GOP primary election, according to a Vanderbilt poll.
The university was notified Tuesday afternoon that the Santorum campaign planned to hold an event at Belmont after the university notified candidates “about the availability of Belmont facilities as a gathering site,” said an campus-wide email.
“One of the University’s primary goals in hosting that event was to offer educational programming for our students and the Nashville community and to make Belmont the place where everyone could gather to discuss policy issues impacting our nation,” the email said. “Belmont’s commitment to that goal has not changed, and we wish to continue these efforts during the 2012 campaign.”
Santorum will also be in Nashville for a private fundraiser hosted by Belmont trustee Lee Beaman earlier that evening.
The university said traffic and parking will likely be an issue that night and is encouraging students with night classes to come to campus early and park in the Inman/McWhorter Garage.
