Volleyball wins OVC title, heads to NCAA’s

In their first Ohio Valley Conference championship, the Belmont volleyball team defeated the top-seeded Morehead State Eagles in four sets to earn a bid to the NCAA tournament.

With the win, the Bruins broke a 24-game Morehead State winning streak on the Eagles’ own home court in Morehead, Ky.

Allison McCoy, who was named the tournament MVP after the game, led the Bruins with 16 kills and 21 points on the night.

The Bruins fell to an early hole in the first set and was down as as many as 13 points before ultimately losing the set 25-13.

After racking up 16 kills, twice that of the first set, Belmont came back and won the second set 25-23.

After the half, the Bruins took the third set more convincingly as the Eagles committed 10 errors in a 25-18 win.

In the fourth set, Belmont maintained around a three-point lead the entirety of the final set, winning the match 25-22 with a Jen Myer kill.

After the game, McCoy, Hannah Miranda and Jamie Lundstrom were named to the all-tournament team.

The Bruins will play in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 29 or 30 at an undetermined site.
