For the first time in Belmont women’s basketball history, the Bruins have ranked nationally in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. They currently sit at No. 24.
“It’s a huge honor to think of all the teams and players who have come through the program, for this to be the first team that’s ranked — that’s special. It’s a cool thing to be a part of,” said first year Head Coach Bart Brooks in a statement. “One thing our team has done this year is stay focused on what our next task is. Whether it’s a practice or walkthrough or video session, they stay in the moment.”
“I hope they continue to be as tough and resilient and nearsighted as they can be.”
The team has received AP votes for the past few weeks — Saturday’s win against Tennessee Tech, however, seems to have been enough to push them into making history once again in a season already overflowing with records.
In late November, the Bruins scored a program-high 19 three-pointers and broke the Curb Event Center record of 17 three-pointers — an accomplishment previously held by the men’s team.
This year’s team boasts an impressive 24-3 overall record and remains undefeated in conference play.
The team is currently on a 15-game win streak and hopes to be the regular season conference champion for the second consecutive year.
