Belmont hopes to build new parking garage

Belmont is planning to build a new parking garage behind the Troutt/McAfee complex, where there is currently just a parking lot.

To do so, the university wants to permanently close the alleys on Belmont property between 15th Avenue, Belmont Boulevard, Compton Avenue and Delmar Avenue, said Belmont’s Editorial and News Content Director April Hefner.

The university will ask the Metro Planning Commission for permission to close those alleys on March 28, according to an article from the Nashville Post.

“Approval to close by Metro is a necessary first step in being able to build upon them,” Hefner said.

If approved, this garage will be built across the street from Belmont’s new performing arts center, which is currently under construction.

“Our hope is that the garage will provide parking for our students and minimize the number who are parking on public streets on the south end of campus,” Hefner said in a statement.
