Belmont Professor Dies in Car Accident

Another death has affected the Belmont community.

Belmont professor Boyd Smith died in a car accident Monday morning, President Greg Jones said in an email.

Boyd had been with Belmont since 2008, serving as a Professor of Practice in the Massey College of Business and as the Director of the Edward C. Kennedy Center for Business Ethics.

Boyd was also the coach for the Business Ethics Team for the last seven years.

The team won first place last February in the Templeton Business Ethics Case Competition at Stetson University.

The Gabhart Chapel is open for reflection and prayer, where staff will be available to provide support.

If you or someone you know needs or are seeking help, resources are available, including

Belmont Counseling Services, which can be reached at 615-460-6856 or in Gabhart 218.

The TimelyCare app is also available 24/7 to all students.
