Belmont University’s South Asian and Middle Eastern Association participated in the traditional Hindu festival Holi, hosted by Vanderbilt University’s South Asian Cultural Exchange, on Saturday.
Holi, commonly known as the festival of colors, is an annual spring festival celebrated largely in India and Nepal. Meant to pay homage to the triumph of good over evil as well as the flourishing of friendship and love, the festivities revolve around hours of colorful food, music and community.
The day’s events included throwing—and getting covered in—the traditional multicolored powder, dancing to a live DJ on Vanderbilt’s Alumni Lawn and appreciating the congregation of diverse cultures come to celebrate the Hindu spirit.
