SGA announces lawn closure

Belmont’s Student Government Association cabinet released a statement to the Vision announcing that the lawn in front of Potter and Patton will close for 4 to 6 weeks at the end of next week for renovations.

The statement, which can be found on the SGA website, comes following a meeting between the SGA cabinet and senior leadership.

“The lawn is a special place on our campus. It’s an integral part of the student experience here at Belmont, and we as students have a right to use it,” SGA President Jonathan Rankin said.“We also have the responsibility to take care of it.”

While the lawn is closed, Belmont Facilities Management Services will carefully plant more resistant seeds, which will keep the lawn healthy and green for all students to enjoy in the future, according to the statement. The lawn will close for 4 to 6 weeks so that the seeds may germinate and take root.

Rankin concludes his statement by encouraging students to make use of the lawn space between the Johnson and Baskin centers and the new green space where Wheeler used to be.

“If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me, Cabinet, or any of your Student Government Representatives,” he said.
