Belmont’s Campus Security is working to be more visible and engaged with students following the settlement of a sexual assault case from 2008. The case involved a former Belmont student suing the university for allegedly inadequate security measures that contributed to her being raped. While the books are closed on both the incident and the suit, Chief of Campus Security Pat Cunningham says the job of improving on-campus safety is never finished. “Security is an ongoing proce

Epilepsy, crushing a stigma
A month before my 18th birthday, I had my first seizure. My mother found me laying face down on the floor, unconscious. I wasn’t breathing. She called 911 and I woke up in the hospital almost two days later. They told me I would have surely died if my mother had found me but just a few moments later. Not too long after that seizure, I was diagnosed with idiopathic generalized epilepsy and was prescribed Keppra. Fortunately, my epilepsy is now controlled and I am able to lead

Mellodi music showcase

Doors opened at 8 p.m., and by the time the first band, indie-folk trio Maybe April, hit the stage at 9 p.m., the room’s buzzing murmur had turned into a dull roar. WACked Out
College is a time of searching and exploring, and never is this more true than when looking for classrooms. Unfortunately for students of all ages, navigating the new Wedgewood Academic Building is a search that never seems to end. Finding one’s way through the WAC’s maze-like halls has fostered a sense of unease for students attempting to reach their classes on time. An intricate stairwell system and elevators that only reach certain floors are at the heart of the problem. S

Simple Sustainable Tips for your Dorm Room
Classes have begun, and pretty soon your new dorm or apartment will begin to feel like home. While move-in week may feel like a distant memory, it takes time to completely settle in. What is ALS and what’s being done to prevent it?
We’ve all seen the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and many have even participated in the making of a video. The viral Internet sensation is hard to miss with today’s many social media platforms. We pour buckets of ice water on ourselves and then challenge our family and friends to do the same. The consequence for not taking the challenge is to donate money to the ALS Association. We blindly follow the trendy videos and encourage others to donate to a great cause – but what do we r

Live On The Green review, week three
The cloudy skies on the drive to Public Square Park was a premonition for the night to come. This week’s lineup of Live on the Green, which included All Them Witches, The Features and headliners Capital Cities, was dampened by stormy weather, and mediocre performances. The audience consisted of college students and 20-somethings who waited in anticipation. As the time neared 6:30 p.m. Nashville-bred All Them Witches finally took the stage. The front half of the crowd rose to
